Drilling tips

A bad workman always blames his tools they say.

But good tools make all the difference in doing it right. And that applies to wall fixings especially.

My top tips for doing it right are as follows:

  1. Get the right fixings. Nylon fixings like the ones I use are the best and they never let me down.

  2. Make sure you're using the right drill bit size for the fixing. These ones actually say what drill bit you need, and make sure you're using a screw that fits just right

  3. Get an awl and always make a little hole first but you can place the end of the drill bit into

  4. If you're drilling into plasterboard turn off the hammer action. Just the rotation is enough to go through it and it will be neater.

  5. You really need an electric screwdriver to put the screw in, not the hammer drill. If you screw it in too far the hammer drill will have too much torque and could damage the fixing

  6. And you could spend £300 on a drill that will make all the difference. If that's not something you want to do if you're only using it every 6 months then just give me a call.
